Dr. Rachael Wruble

Dr. Rachael was raised in Bad Axe, MI (about 15 miles from Dr. Brad’s hometown). She completed her Bachelor of Science in Chemistry with High Honors followed by her Doctorate of Optometry Magna Cum Laude from Michigan College of Optometry in 2009.

Dr. Rachael knew Michigan was too cold for her, so she was excited to find out she matched with her #1 residency choice at W. G. (Bill) Hefner Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Salisbury and Charlotte, NC.

Loving the NC weather and the rapidly growing area, she decided to place roots in Gaston County.

Dr. Rachael specializes in hard-to-fit contact lenses, Ocular Disease (Glaucoma, Macular degeneration, Diabetes)
Specialty Contact Lenses (Keratoconus, Trauma, Advanced prescriptions), and Dry Eye.

Dr. Rachael was named 2017 Young Optometrist of the Year, 2018 Young Optometrist of the South, AND 2018 Women in Optometry Theia Award.

Along with Dr. Brad, Dr. Rachael is very active in the community serving on numerous boards and associations including:

  • Girls on the Run Board Member
  • North Carolina Optometric Society President (youngest in history)
  • Gastonia East Rotarian
  • Heart Board of Gaston County Board Member
  • Montcross Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors
  • Past Girls on the Run Board Member
  • Key Optometric Leader speaking for numerous companies worldwide

She also volunteers at Gaston Family Health Services providing eye exams and participates with Belmont Community Organization.

Professional Statement:
Dr. Wruble sees the eye as a piece of the puzzle – interconnected to the rest of the body. So a problem with the eye can be a result of a problem with the body. She wanted to be a part of a practice where exams are not just about the eye, but a part of the comprehensive care of the entire patient. Establishing a personal relationship with her patients is also important to her, so Belmont Eye is a perfect fit.

Dr. Rachael lives in downtown Belmont and loves to spend time with her husband and daughters, Lucy and Lily on the lake.

Dr. Calah Clayton

Passionate Eye Doctor and Pediatric Specialist.

Dr. Calah Clayton is a passionate Pediatric and Primary Care Optometrist who takes great pride in comprehensive eye-care. Her optometric journey started at a young age, which allows her to relate to her patients at a unique level. She treats her patients with empathy and care, taking her time to best meet the patient’s visual needs. Her personal experiences are what drove her to earn a doctorate of optometry and gain a specialty in the field of pediatric eye care.

You can schedule your whole family with Dr. Clayton!

Dr. Clayton’s optometry journey began at the age of five. After a failed school screening in Kindergarten, she was referred to an optometrist who diagnosed her with strabismus (eye turn) and amblyopia (lazy eye). She endured 2 years of therapy involving patching, bifocals, eye drops, and vision therapy, helping her vision improve to nearly 20/20. These experiences are what make her the skilled optometrist she is today, helping many adults and children diagnosed with the same eye conditions.

She is sensitive to children with special needs and accommodating to parents’ exam requests. Having trained in the areas of Vision Therapy and Sports Vision, she is dedicated to treating more than just sight, but developing vision as a whole.

Dr. Clayton, a Pennsylvania native, obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Biochemistry from Calvin College in Grand Rapids, Michigan. She went on to earn her Doctor of Optometry degree from The University of the Incarnate Word Rosenberg School of Optometry in San Antonio, Texas. During her optometric education she obtained several honorable awards and recognitions and held a variety of leadership roles. She graduated in the top of her class with Cum Laude honors, was one of five Gold Key recipients in her graduating class, honored as a member of Beta Sigma Kappa Optometric Honor Society, and was a participant in many organizations, 3 of which she held leadership positions.

Upon graduation, Dr. Clayton began practicing in South Carolina and Charlotte specializing in pediatrics ages 6 months and above while also providing thorough comprehensive eye care to all ages.

In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her husband and family. Her and her husband, Reece, enjoy mountain biking, working on their old mustang, and making corn hole boards together. She also enjoys spending time in Charleston with her family exploring the city.
